Book Overview

Paul’s writes to Titus In Crete encouraging him in his word of ordering the church, appointing bishops and teaching sound doctrine. He gives details for the godly living that should be promoted in the Church. He describes the behavior of men who are disruptive and factitious and states these people are to be rejected.

Brief Chapter Summaries

Chapter 1

Paul writes to Titus in Crete reminding him of the qualification for church leadership and encouraging him in his duties to appoint people as bishops.  

Chapter 2

Paul describes the behavior of sound doctrine specific to men, women and slaves. Paul lays these behaviors out as a natural reaction to God’s grace revealed in Jesus.

Chapter 3

Paul continues to give guidelines for godly behavior to teach and enforce. Paul describes the actions of men who need to be rejected and confronted.

“The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.”

Titus 1:13

“This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith.”

Titus 2:1

“You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.”

Titus 3:5

“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”
